I've seen articles indicating that the current generation is 37% (or whatever) less empathetic than previous generations have been.
I'm sure our everyone-gets-a-gold-star-and-a-participation-trophy mentality contributes to it.
But in today's day and age, when we are all online all the time, and we are deluged day in and day out with so much anger and hatred and CLICKBAIT HYSTERIA!!1!, I can't help but wonder if some of us aren't letting ourselves get hardened out of sheer self preservation.
I hide a lot of posts on my Facebook feed, but there's only so much invective I can take before I start getting ridiculously angry myself. And I just would rather not spend my life in an livid rage. It's not good for my blood pressure...
