Jacinda Ardern, then and now

  • One indication on how little religion impacts on our politics comes from this interview from Time, with our prime minister, Jacinda Ardern. She’s been PM for nearly two months, and in the public eye for some time before that, and this is the first time I’ve heard that she grew up Mormon. She left the church as an adult—one former teacher said that her Mormonism and her feminism were always going to clash. Other than that, it’s a very good interview, and a good primer into our new PM, especially for those watching from overseas.

Interestingly, if you follow links, you wind up with this 2011 interview with her, and her views, happily, haven’t changed markedly.
